TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Quranic Affairs Center of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said the 37th edition of the country’s International Quran Competition will be held in March 2021.

Mehdi Qarasheikhlu told the Quran TV that the international Quranic event had been scheduled for April this year but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The new date of the competition has been decided to be March 2021, concurrent with the Eid of Mabaath (the anniversary of the day when Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was called to prophethood), he added. Qarasheikhlu noted that like the 43rd edition of Iran’s national Quran competition, the international event will be held online given the COVID-19 restrictions.

Those selected to serve in the panel of judges will also remain in their respective country and judge the performances of the contenders via video links, he went on to say.

Officials had earlier suggested that this year’s contest should be cancelled amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quranic event with the participation of Quran activists from various countries. Qaris and Quran memorizers from over 80 countries took part in the 36th edition, held in Tehran in April 2019.
